Christmas = movies

December 26, 2006

I never really watch many movies.  I’m not much of a sit around-couch potato kind of person, and I never have the money to have the desire to spend 9 dollars on a movie at the theater.  Nine dollar??  no way.  I only give myself like 20 bucks a week for fun money anyways, so that’s way too much!  Anyways, every Christmas break when I go to my parents’ house, we end up watching SOOO many movies.  Nothing is really open, and it’s cold outside, and we are all feeling too lazy to organize a game, so we totally just veg out.  This break I have watched Wallace and Gromit, Cars, Daddy Day Care, Pirates of the Caribbean II, and I am still planning on watching Nacho Libre.  I’m always so incredibly far behind on movies, and I’m really picky about what I will put into my brain anyways.  At least I get some scrap-booking done while I watch these movies.  But, if I could be honest-I’m ready for some time with my friends again!  They all have family in from out of town, so they are busy while I’m dying of boredom.

Christmas is almost here!

December 22, 2006

I’m such a big kid…I still lose sleep on Christmas Eve, and attempt at being surprised at all costs about what my gifts are.  Unfortunately, no one else in my family really cares about surprises, and they are terrible at hiding the gifts that they have bought.  I walk into a room-see a pile of things for me and sadly walk out, wishing that I hadn’t seen it all!! I mean-I’m still excited to recieve the present, but not as excited as if I were  going to be surprised!  Anyways, this Christmas break has been incredible-it’s given me the liberty to do so many things that I have been wanting to do for a long time! Work on artwork, make my own Christmas cards, sleep in late, and make breakfast for my friends this morning.  I will be heading over to my parent’s as of tomorrow and they have informed me of all their plans.  My least favorite plan involves going to one of their friends houses.  These friends have three kids-age 6, 3, and 4 months.  Kids recieving winnie the pooh bedding rather than ipods…you get the idea.  I’ll just chill and listen to the adults talk  usually.  Despite the fact that I am pretty close to the parent’s ages-there’s an obvious generational gap here!

Cool idea!

December 20, 2006

I just read this really awesome article about a group of 10 friends who decided to live only 2nd hand for a year and it caused a big uproar!  This means every single thing outside of food and safety stuff (brake fluid, etc.) and underwear was bought from a yard sale, thrift store, auction, Craig’s list or Freecyle.  Now, much to my surprise, people wrote them and accused them of being anti-american, and of threatening the economy!!  What a ridiculous thing to say.   If being a giant money waster and consuming far too much is being an American, then call me un-patriotic!  About 10 weeks ago I started something where every week I give two things away.  You’d be amazed-I end up giving away like 5-10 things most weeks, and I haven’t even begun to notice!  I’ve given away everything from clothing, scarves, cds, books, pirate boots, art supplies, stationary, or gift cards.  It’s an attempt on my behalf to really engage the things that I own to figure out what I really NEED.  I don’t need knick-knacks or books I’ll never read.  Or millions of clothing either!!

Christmas presents

December 7, 2006

I can’t wait!  Christmas is coming, and I have been broke this whole year, so getting presents sounds pretty amazing.  I mean, sure, they may be really dull compared to as a kid, because they are things that I need, rather than necessarily “want” like toys or something, but still!  I know I’ll probably get like 50 dollars cash, some new cds, but what I really really want, is a scooter!  I know I will have to wait until the spring to really use it, which is lame, but I want one anyways!
